What kinds of jewellery can be made bespoke?

All of it. Rings, pendants, earrings, bangles, cufflinks, and engagement rings and wedding bands — including matched sets and bands shaped to sit against an existing ring.

How do I arrange a consultation?

What should I bring to a consultation?

Accepted Answer

Sketches, photographs, screenshots, loose stones or existing pieces you would like reworked — plus a rough budget and a metal preference if you have one. None of it is compulsory; a vague idea and a conversation is a perfectly good start.

Question 4

How long does an appointment take?

Accepted Answer

Usually 30 to 60 minutes. That is enough time to look at ideas properly, try on samples for size and feel, and agree what happens next.

Can we meet remotely?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Virtual appointments are available if Southsea is a long way from you, or if it is simply easier. Photographs and measurements sent in advance make those calls far more useful.

Can you use stones or gold from a piece I already own?

Accepted Answer

Very often, yes. Inherited stones and old gold are where a lot of commissions begin. Kerry will check the stones for damage first and tell you honestly if resetting is a risk.

Is everything handmade by Kerry?

Accepted Answer

Most of the collection is made by Kerry at the bench in Southsea. A small number of ready-made pieces are also stocked, and those are clearly marked as such in the listing so you always know which you are buying.

A piece I want is sold out. What now?

Accepted Answer

Sold-out pieces can usually be remade to order. Because each one is made by hand, the remake will be very slightly its own thing rather than an identical copy — which most people prefer once they see it.

How do I find my ring size?

Accepted Answer

Come into the studio and Kerry will size you properly, or post a ring you already wear and it will be measured and returned to you. Sizing from a piece you actually wear is far more reliable than a printable guide.

Which metals do you work in?

Accepted Answer

Sterling silver, 9ct and 18ct gold in yellow, white and rose, and platinum for commissions where it makes sense. If you have a preference, say so early — it changes the design as much as the price.

Can you repair something you did not make?

Accepted Answer

Almost always. Trade repair work is where the workshop started and it is still a large part of what happens here — resizing, re-shanking, chain and clasp work, claw rebuilding, stone replacement and full restoration.

Do I need to bring it in, or can I post it?

Accepted Answer

Either. Bring it to the studio by appointment, or send it by tracked and insured post. Photographs by email first mean you get an honest idea of the work and cost before anything travels.

Will you tell me if a repair is not worth doing?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Some pieces are safer left as they are, and some are worth more as a memory than as a repair. You will get a straight answer rather than a quote.

How should I look after silver?

Accepted Answer

Wear it. Silver tarnishes fastest sitting in a drawer. Keep it away from perfume, hairspray and chlorine, take rings off for the gym and the garden, and use a soft polishing cloth rather than a dip.

How should I care for stones?

Accepted Answer

Warm water, a drop of washing-up liquid and a soft brush suits most stones. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners for opal, emerald, pearl and anything you know has been treated — bring those in instead.
